When it comes to education and being a girl, story has a turn and it often gets twisted. It was a news once on the television that several schools were destroyed and those were “School for Girls” in Swat, PK. Well that’s another issue that the theme of bombarding was different.
On reality grounds, it is common perception of women, especially when they have to bring some girl as their daughter in law. It is believed that more a girl/ women is educated, less she would be capable of handling things at home. She will not prove herself as a good wife and good mother. It is believed that girls who go to universities do not know how to cook food, wash clothes and are not domestic ladies, instead they are commercial. At the end it is said that they are not family oriented. This is the perception of every other women in Pakistan especially women from middle class, when there are more schools, colleges and universities in the country then ever before, when people talk about education. There is awareness in the country for education and lots of women think that girls should be educated but still more percentage goes to those who are still against education of girls and educated girls. Lots of people object to what I write, but unfortunately this is true!
Pakistan is an Islamic country, no doubts….but Islam is an entirely different concept/ religion and has totally different practices than what is being done these days. Islam says that every human has right to get education. Islam says that you have to live with both: Dunia and Deen. The fact is that when a girl gets educated she becomes familiar to her rights, and she knows what is wrong and what is right, as a result she rebels, which is not acceptable by other women of the family; as most of them are illiterate and those who are not, are not capable of speaking out for their rights.
In Pakistan, women is the one who is the leg puller for other women. Most of the women are not getting their rights and they stop others as well . In some cases women force other women of the family to give over her property to their brothers.
It is not about being educated , in fact it is about being smart. When a girl gets educated she gets to know her rights. Stopping her from doing right things would be tough or even impossible.
